PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
